3 Interpretation
In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires,---
Act means the Dairy Industry Act 1952
approved person means a person approved by the Director-General under
regulation 7
chemical substance includes an agricultural compound, a veterinary medicine,
an environmental contaminant, an extraneous substance, a toxic substance, and
the metabolites of those substances
Director-General means the chief executive of the Department of State that,
with the authority of the Prime Minister, is for the time being responsible for
the administration of the Act
farm dairy---
(a) means a dairy where milking animals are milked; and
(b) subject to paragraph (c), includes---
(i) any stockyard, milking yard, stable, stall, or shed
associated with a farm dairy; and
(ii) any dairy associated with a farm dairy where milk extracted
in the farm dairy is collected, filtered, deposited, separated, cooled, or
stored, or treated or stabilised to prepare for transport; but
(c) does not include a place (that is not a dairy where milking animals
are milked) where milk is processed, or treated, otherwise than by being
collected, filtered, separated, stirred, or cooled, or treated or stabilised to
prepare for transport
operator means---
(a) for a farm dairy, every person who controls or manages the farm
dairy; and
(b) for a dairy factory, every person who conducts business at the
factory
programme means the dairy residue monitoring programme established by
regulation 5
registered laboratory means a laboratory registered under the Dairy Industry
Regulations 1990 (SR 1990/290)
residue means a chemical substance that remains in raw milk or dairy produce
and that is likely to be harmful to a human.
