Explanatory Note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate
their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 11 October 2001, amend the Misuse
of Drugs Regulations 1977. Most of the amendments are to ensure that those
regulations---
o authorise designated prescriber nurses (nurses authorised to
prescribe specified prescription medicines by the Medicines (Designated
Prescriber: Nurses Practising in Aged Care and Child Family Health) Regulations
2001) to prescribe certain controlled drugs in certain circumstances; and
o regulate the issue of prescriptions for those drugs by those nurses.
The rest of the amendments are to revoke redundant provisions, or to correct
minor technical defects and drafting errors, in those regulations.
Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.
Date of notification in Gazette: 13 September 2001.
These regulations are administered in the Ministry of Health.
