Fire Authorities
7. Fire Authority in rural fire districts---(1) Except in the case of
a rural fire district constituted under section 4 (2) of this Act, every
rural fire district shall be administered for the purposes of this Act
by a Fire Authority, being either the Minister [of Conservation] or a
rural fire committee constituted as hereinafter provided, as may be
prescribed by the Governor-General by Order in Council.
(2) The Governor-General may by Order in Council change the Fire
Authority of any rural fire district and by the same or any subsequent
Order in Council may make such consequential provision as may seem to
him to be desirable with respect to the property, liabilities, and
engagements of the Fire Authority in respect of the administration of
the district.

In subs. (1) the words ``of Conservation'' were inserted by s. 65
(1) of the Conservation Act 1987.
[7A. New Zealand Forestry Corporation Rural Fire District---(1)
Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act,---
(a) [[New Zealand]] Forestry Corporation Limited (the ``Company'')
shall, on and after the date on which the Company takes
possession of any land from the Crown pursuant to the
State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986 be deemed to be a fire
authority for the purposes of section 7 of this Act; and
(b) That land shall be deemed to be a rural fire district constituted
under section 4 of this Act under the control of the Company and
shall be known as the [[New Zealand Forestry Corporation Rural]]
Fire District, and there shall be immediately adjacent to those
lands a fire safety margin as defined in this Act of 1.5
kilometres.
(2) Nothing in subsection (1) of this section shall apply in respect
of land which before the Company takes possession has been constituted
as a rural fire district under section 4 of this Act.]
This section was inserted by s. 32 (1) of the State-Owned
Enterprises Act 1986.
In para. (a) the words ``New Zealand'' were inserted, and in para.
(b) the words in square brackets were substituted for the words
``Forestry Corporation'', by s. 4 (a) and (b) respectively of the
Forest and Rural Fires Amendment Act 1987.
